WHAT CAN YOU SUSPECT WHEN YOU HEAR A “CLANG” IN YOUR AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM?

So we were in the 85710 area, near Pantano Wash and 22nd today, as a customer had called us in a half-panic, explaining she had heard a loud clang in her air conditioning unit in the morning. When we arrived, we started the system and our inspection. We immediately went to the filter: it was completely clogged. A clogged filter creates pressure inside the A/C and this pressure builds up inside the duct work, creating this loud “clang” noise. What can you do if you see your filter is clogged? Just replace it. If you have a 1-inch filter, replace it monthly. If you have a 5-inch filter, replace it every 3-6 months depending on how fast it gets dirty. Other than that, we found that the condensation drain line of the A/C was not glued properly (sloppy original installation) and the duct work was not sealed properly at the unit. We did the repair and replaced the filter, and the A/C was purring when we left.
