Tucson Air Conditioning Company D&H AC Ready for Emergency Calls in 110°F+ Temps

Tucson air conditioning company D&H AC boosted their tech staff ahead of the heat. Faced with surging emergency calls, A/C contractors short of technicians lose desperate clients to competitors.

Tucson, AZ – As we move deeper into the summer season, Tucson and most of Southern Arizona is experiencing sweltering heat with temperatures consistently into the triple digits.
In these weather conditions, a failing air conditioning unit quickly becomes a critical health hazard for toddlers, children and seniors.According to Phil Robles, General Manager at D & H Air Conditioning, one of the oldest air conditioning service companies in Tucson: “Temperatures inside a typical tract home can increase over 10°F in just a couple hours when an A/C unit fails. These extremely hot days increase stress on air conditioning systems causing critical components to break down.”

In fact, local air conditioning companies observe a huge increase in service calls throughout the Tucson metro area. “From an average of 5 to 8 emergency calls a day during the off-season, our service center receives 30-50 emergency calls a day between June and August,” says Phil Robles.

This problem is compounded in summer by a shortage of qualified HVAC technicians in the Tucson valley. Residents of the neighboring towns of Vail, Sahuarita, Green Valley and Sonoita experience this labor shortage even more acutely as A/C contractors in Tucson, Marana and Oro Valley are overwhelmed with the surge in local emergencies.

“It’s the same story every year“, explains Brett Wright, President of D&H. “Most large A/C contractors lose qualified employees during the slow season because the service work load decreases. But every summer, there are not enough skilled technicians to satisfy a demand that increases too fast.”

According to Phil Robles, “Tucson A/C companies are currently so short-handed that residents often have to call 3-4 HVAC contractors to find one that’s available for same-day service.”
This shortage is detrimental to those air conditioning companies that did not anticipate the seasonal surge and for contractors that are unable to attract skilled technicians. These contractors may default on their regular maintenance customers, causing these customers to switch allegiance. Customers are left having to find a new service provider.

D&H anticipated the summer demand rise very early on and we increased our technical staff accordingly,” states Phil Robles. “It was a burden on our finances, but we reap the rewards today by being able to respond quickly to the vast majority of our customers’ calls.

D&H has been embarking on an aggressive growth strategy since last year, punctuated in 2018 by the purchase of a large facility located on Evans Rd, at the confluence of I-10 and I-19. This new facility will house an innovative state-of-the-art HVAC training center, “the first of its kind in Southern Arizona”, states owner Brett Wright.

Staffing up early this year was not just a move to face the summer demand“, explains Brett Wright. “We geared up for faster growth in 2018 and 2019, and our growth is attracting the right kind of technicians: people who not only understand HVAC but are also able to understand and meet the expectations of all Southern Arizona communities. But the most exciting part of this transition will be our ability to train people with zero experience but the right attitude, aptitude and skills to become skilled HVAC experts.

In 2019 D&H AC will celebrate a special anniversary: its 60th of continuous operations as a prominent air conditioning service company in Tucson and Southern Arizona.
