D&H services all types of air conditioning units in the Catalina At Canada Hills neighborhood.

Every day our HVAC technicians come back to our service centers with many stories related to air conditioning repair services. We decided to share some.

D&H will go any length to service people… Here on a quasi dirt road on the north side of Oro Valley/Catalina, we did a tune-up on a 19-year old Goodman 3-ton gas split system. A 19-year old A/C unit! Maybe the oldest unit we’ve seen in operation. So we did a 360 degree inspection, ensured all electrical connections were secure, tested amp draws on all electrical components. The unit showed low refrigerant levels. The temperature split was 15.3, also showing low refrigerant. The starter was black and pitted which can cause the A/C unit to flutter. We found water standing in both condensation pans, rinsed the condenser line and removed the clog. The indoor coil bulkheads show corrosion build-up. This A/C uses the R-22 refrigerant, which will be unavailable in 2020. We topped it off as our customer wants to get though the summer with this unit. On a 19-year old unit, we can’t guarantee how long refrigerant will last and we mentioned it clearly. We left with the unit running better, but a replacement will be needed sooner than later. We keep them running, but these units lose efficiency and are power-hungry because of aging technology. It’s a better deal to finance a new A/C than to pay extra $$ on a power bill. Would you like to see how this works out financially? New air conditioning units are very efficient.
